How To Increase Clarity in Your Pitches

If you get to the end of your pitch meeting, and your potential client is still asking for a timeline, or a deliverables list, or a price range, you didn’t pitch well enough.

Clarity is so important in pitches, because your service is uncharted territory for the client. The reason they would hire someone like you is so you can bring new expertise that they don’t have. So when your pitch is unclear, it makes a foggy experience even more difficult to comprehend for your client.

It also reflects on your understanding of the topic, and your confidence. Your pitches aren’t unclear because you don’t know what you’re doing. They’re unclear because you’re afraid to put yourself on the hook. Most of us want brands to tell us exactly what they want, so that if we do it and it doesn’t work, we can tell them it was their idea. But the freelancer who says, “I know what you should do” is going out on a limb. It might work. Or it might not. But brands will hire a confident freelancer with a clear pitch every single time over the unconfident, confusing one.

So how do you increase clarity?

Design a pitch that can be answered with a simple “yes.” If you outline the concept, the process, the timeline, the deliverables, and the price, a client could potentially just say, “Yes.” That’s the goal. Start with my Photo + Video Pitch Deck Template. It has copywriting prompts for all those elements.

If you keep getting the same questions after your pitches, you’ve just discovered something that’s unclear. Pay attention to the questions your clients ask you, because those are the truest indicators of confusion.

If you want to start winning your pitches, download my Photo + Video pitch Deck Template. It’s free and it works.
