Are You Willing to Bet Your Time on It?

I had a conversation with a creator recently who was telling me about a new audience growth strategy. He explained the process, and why no one is doing it, and why it would work. Then he said he would be willing to bet money on it.

That’s a show of confidence. Betting money on your strategy working? Bold move. But do you know what’s an even bolder move? Betting time on it. Betting emotional energy on it. Betting the chance that you might be wrong on it. This is much more difficult to do, because these are more valuable resources. You can’t get time back. Being wrong stings. Investing emotional energy and seeing no return is tough.

Time will tell if my creator friend puts his strategy into place. Time will also tell if he’ll invest the proper time and emotion energy to see it though. This creative world; this digital world–it’s a poker game. It asks a lot from you, and sometimes it takes a lot. Sometimes you need to drop your watch and your keys in the pot to keep playing. But rest assured. After enough hands, and after enough time, things will go your way. After you’ve been proven wrong a few times, and made to look a fool a few more, you’ll hit on a few hands. And it’ll start to get really fun.

You just have to bet your time on it.
