I Have Books In Me

I have books in me. I have theories, and studies, and TED Talks, and seminars in me.

I have books in me.

Maybe not now. Maybe not soon. But they’re in me.

Everything I’m doing right now is a proving ground. I’m proving to myself and to the world that I deserve it. That I was the guy who wrote every day for years with five website visitors a day. And I didn’t mind. I was the guy who loved it so much that I pushed through, connected with an audience, and brought real value.

I’m discovering my voice. Right now I’m reading a memoir by Matthew McConaughey. And this blog is sounding a bit like Matthew McConaughey. On days when I read Seth Godin I sound a bit like Seth Godin. But someday. Someday I’m going to uncover my voice. I’m going to sound like me.

I’m accepting the fact that I’m not a childhood prodigy. My teenage years are long gone. My dreams of playing guitar on stage for thousands of people are sailing into the distance. I’m accepting the idea that my peak moment might not come while I still have my hair. I may achieve my greatest work when I’m 45 or 55 or 65. And I’m excited about that.

I have books in me. And I’m committing to taking steps every day to draw those out.

What do you have in you? What work is beckoning you? What is calling you?

What are you doing today to achieve that?
